Canadian National Team Player, and professional footballer, Adam Straith, has joined the Pacific Soccer Institute for pre season training and coaching mentorship.
(Victoria, BC) Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Straith attended Oak Bay High School in Victoria but left after grade 11 to attend the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency program under the tutelage of Thomas Niendorf who was the Residency Academy Director.
Through a deal orchestrated by Thomas Niendorf and the Vancouver Whitecaps, Straith moved to Energie Cottbus to begin his European professional career in 2009. He made his senior debut for FC Energie Cottbus in the 2. Fussball-Bundesliga against FC St. Pauli on October 25, 2009 and scored his first ever goal in Germany in his first game for his club. On December 16, 2009 Straith signed his first professional contract with FC Energie Cottbus tying him to the club until June 30, 2013. He joined 1. FC Saarbrücken on loan in January 2012, and later joined SV Wehen Wiesbaden in 2013. Last season, Straith played in the Norwegian first division with Fredrikstad FK.
"I'm quite jealous of the boys in the PSI program, because it would have been nice to have this when I was younger," stated Adam Straith. "It's funny to come in and see a group of kids that were doing the exact same thing I did before I left for Europe. I see myself in alot of these boys at the same age, and to have a program like PSI in my city, in my hometown, it's fantastic. For someone that has gone through the system, this is the perfect place to get the kids into the right frame of mind, and prepared for making that jump to Europe. No matter if they have that ambition and ability, or if they decide to go the college/university route, this program under Thomas will be a catalyst to creating disciplined, mentally prepared, student-athletes."
Straith has been capped 40 times by the Canadian National team and his experiences in the professional game will be a great asset and mentorship opportunity for all PSI students.
Founded by Thomas Niendorf and located in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, the Pacific Soccer Institute’s athletic and academic programs provide student-athletes the opportunity to maximize their potential and professional opportunities in the game of soccer.
