PSI Residency players, Ethan Monaghan and Everett Orgnero, spent 1 week with top youth academy team, FC Augsburg.
(Victoria, BC) Ethan Monaghan and Everett Orgnero travelled from November 3 to November 13 to take part in the Augsburg U19 Junior Bundesliga training environment. Ethan and Everett are both 1999 born players from Calgary, Alberta.
“The Germany Apprenticeship is an important element of the PSI program,” stated PSI Managing Director Thomas Niendorf. “It allows players to experience the playing environment of Europe and provide a vehicle for comparison and bar setting to be able to play professional soccer. Both players performed extremely well and we received very positive feedback from the FC Augsburg coaching staff.
“The training we experienced at FC Augsburg was identical to our PSI training in Victoria,” explained PSI student-athlete Everett Orgnero. “You could see the drills run in Germany, and Thomas has it nailed in terms of mimicking their training environment. That's super important because I think that gives us the best chance to fit in with a professional team. PSI provides an environment that when you go on these apprenticeship visits you can feel confident in showing yourself well to these professional teams.”
"My experience at FC Augsburg was obviously very eye-opening," commented PSI student-athlete Ethan Monaghan. "From the moment we arrived, FC Augsburg really made sure we were taken care of and everything about this opportunity was well organized. Thomas, and the PSI program, prepared us perfectly for this apprenticeship opportunity. I knew going into this it would be difficult, but I felt comfort as soon as I saw that the curriculum we use at PSI was essentially the same as in Germany. That allowed me to fully integrate into the high pace demand of training with FC Augsburg. In the end, I felt like this apprenticeship and experience were a success."
