PESI student-athlete, Alexander Irwin, has been invited into the Canadian National Team U17 evaluation camp.
(Victoria, BC) Canada Soccer selected 23 players for a six-day Men's U-17 evaluation camp in Toronto, Ontario. The 2016 camp runs 24-29 October with eight on-field sessions planned over the course of the week.
“It was incredibly exciting for me and my family to be selected to the U17 National Team camp,” said PSI student-athlete Alexander Irwin. “I knew quite of the few guys there and hadn’t seen them in awhile and was really excited to match myself up against them but overall looked forward to get the opportunity to show what I have and the things I’ve learned. My experience was very positive and you could tell the National coaches wanted to give each player the chance to show well, and my opportunity wouldn’t have happened without the preparations provided by my previous coaches and Thomas.”
Canada's 23 players are all born 2000 or later, making them eligible for next year's CONCACAF and FIFA U-17 competitions. Many of the players in this group have been part of Canada Soccer's men's national youth program since 2014.
“Alex is a very talented, hard-working and dedicated player who deserves this opportunity,” said PSI managing director Thomas Niendorf. “It is always great to see a player receiving acknowledgement and an opportunity for his further development.”
Next year's CONCACAF Men's Under-17 Championship runs 21 April to 7 May in Panama. From 12 nations, the top four will qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 (dates yet to be announced).
Founded by Thomas Niendorf and located in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, the Pacific Soccer Institute’s athletic and academic programs provide student-athletes the opportunity to maximize their potential and professional opportunities in the game of soccer.
